Engaging a Program of Training For "The Greatest Harmony"
"The rider, who is the horse's partner, must submit both himself and the horse in his charge to a program of training. The aim of this training is the greatest harmony between man and horse".

"The Horseman's Duties to his Horse", German National Equestrian Federation

With this inspiration in mind I trained horses and instructed amature and professionals riders for about twenty years now. I broke and trained over three hundred horses of different breeds, age, and specialization (eventers, jumpers, dressage), competing regionally and nationally up to GP, which equipped me with a large scope of experience. Still, I keep learning from every new horse, rider or trainer who share with me a challenging opportunity. So, I figured it is an almost infinite journey. Just look how equestrianizm has evolved over the last only twenty years. USDF Instructor Certification Program established the equitation standards higher than the mount Rainier in Washington state. The way we trained riders and horses in 1970s and 1980s is very different than what we do now based on enormous information available to the equestrian community. Still, despite all these video tapes, books, seminars and clinics, the majority of the equestrian market remains highly fragmented, with local stable cultures dominating the general principles of equitation.

I trained and instructed in many stables and the State Studs in Belarus, Russia and here in US, and my observation is consistent across all stables in US. It is an overwehlming lack of accountability (is it cultural?) of a horse's rider/owner, with trainers putting all their minds and hearts to do their work and compensate for their student's lack of accountability and depth of understanding. The proof to that is how little time horsemen spent in their offices with video tapes and notebooks before or after training sesson. They in general do not bother accumulating, sorting, and processing the knowledge, they rather preffer "renting" it from their trainers for a length of the lesson time.

Antanovich Dressage offers Training Program phases design for riders of all levels from Training level through Grand Prix in dressage, show jumping and eventing.

Step 1 - Create Your Riding Materials

Excited to try? Let's begin:

  1. Record your training video
  2. Shoot your horse pictures
  3. Define the level of your goals
  4. Draft a training roadmap - anyway you understand it

I bet you have already made some rich observations while making the pictures and video. It is very, very helpful. Presence or absence of mirrors in the arena makes a big difference on riding, too.

Take a pen and, mark where your horse is now on that roadmap, and write down a plan of the training program for your horse, or ask your trainer to help you. What do you get? You probably discover that you have never seen a written down training program for your horse. That's ok, we will fix that! But now - write, draw your best, you will be amazed how much you will get out of this before you even put your pen down. Also not a bad idea to discuss your draft plan with different trainers or clinicians, you will learn a whole lot!

Step 2 - Send your Riding Materials for Review

Send the draft of training program for your horse, riding video and images, and your essay to:

 Step 3 - Schedule a Private Session

Follow up with call to schedule a private session to complete design of a training program for your horse. It can be done live in the arena or remotely via email and phone.

I have always a lot to say and demonstrate to any question you might have in mind, and you will see how advice can be applied in a real riding situation.

  • Private session - $150, included

After the private session you will get detailed recommendations on riding technique, training session design and annual training plan.

  • Training Program materails created, discussed, and finalized - $300

When a group of riders would like to schedule some dedicated time to a certain topic, a seminar or a clinic can be arranged.

  • One-day clinic with a program discussion (4 riders max) - $150 per horse/rider a day.
  • Two-day and three-day clinic with a lecture would be $125 per horse/rider a day.

Step 4 - Ride your plan!

Begin practicing according to the Training Plan and enjoying the process, results and milestones!

Follow-up support/coaching is available both live in the arena and remotely.

Plan a celebrating your results party for your supporters and fans!
